I left software. I bought a shop.
I'm Steven Orvis. I spent my career in software. Then I bought Woodland Wood Products, a 14-person millwork shop outside Pittsburgh.
Why I tell this story
Most people think buying a business is only for rich people or MBAs. It's not. You need a plan, clear limits, and the nerve to look at a lot of deals.
What I do now
- Run Woodland Wood Products.
- Raise Murray Grey cattle at Firm Foundation Farm.
- Share the journey on YouTube: Built on a Curve.
Want to buy a business too?
Start with the one-page tool I used to screen deals. It's free.
I shared this story at Pittsburgh TechFest 2026: "Acquisition as a Career Path."
